Diane DeLissio, President
This was Diane's last meeting as
President; Diane's term ends August 1,
2008. The position has not yet
been filled. Meanwhile
the duties will be split among the board
members to keep the club running. Paul
Letosky will be assisting Alex Flyntz as
race director. Without a president our
club could be dissolved.
The Firecracker Run was a huge success.
There were 806 finishers
- the most ever. There were 150
participants in the 'Lift & Run' and
over 100 kids entered the Fun Run.
Diane thanks all the volunteers, Dr.
Jeff Poplarski and crew plus the
auxiliary help that made the Run a
success. Part of the profits from the
race will be split between the Special
Olympics and I.N.N. We also collected
three boxes of canned food for I.N.N..
Volunteers needed
Merchants' Mile - Aug. 9th
(Sat) )
Dirty Sock Run - Aug. 17th (Sun)
) Sign up in progress.
August meeting will once again be a BBQ
in Brady Park. Come on down.

Firecracker Run
- Board voted for an increase of the 'Day of Race' registration fee
to $25.00 in order to encourage runners to
preregister, thereby reducing the avalanche of
runners signing up on race day.
- Each volunteer group will be assigned a Captain w/cell phone to
help distribute volunteers where they are most
needed. Our volunteers are flexible and can do
almost anything.
- Separate refreshment areas, one for the kids and one for
adultsare definite possibilities.
- Ordering small juice cups/boxes rather than soda, especially for
the kids, will be checked out.
- The practice of sandwich wraps for volunteers - a definite hit -
will be continued.
- A vendor outside the park area for ice pops/sodas, if the Village
permits, to be investigated. (non-race
participants need refreshments
too).
- An additional Porta-John will be
added. More places to go.
- A plaque will be presented to Jeff Poplarski
and staff to show our appreciation for all their
efforts that made our 'lift & run' a success.
- Still under discussion are ways to improve on our 'lift &run'
areain order to facilitate the process.
Merchants Mile
- Volunteers still needed; contact Gene Leahy.
- Possible name change for this race in the future. Maybe
Massapequa Miler.
