***** Day-at-the-Races - Sept 12th
*****
*******************************************************
The annual Belmont day-at-the-races
will be held Sunday, September 12th.
Mark your
calendars.
Join the Massapequa Road Runners, Northport
Running Club
and others for a nice afternoon at beautiful
Belmont Race
Track (not Belmont Lake State Park). Come
down, bring a
cooler with food, beverage of choice, and if
so inclined
bet a few dollars on your favorite horse.
Or just enjoy
a nice day in the park. Note that beverages
in GLASS
BOTTLES are NOT ALLOWED in the park, so opt
for cans or
plastic.
The NRC and MRR have been holding this
informal annual event
since 2003 and seem to always have a great
time. If you
have never been to Belmont Park before, you
might be
pleasantly surprised. Belmont Park is set
on a beautiful
park-like grounds, with an area of picnic
tables nicely
shaded by trees. We will be gathering on
the lawn picnic
area right behind the paddock. The park is
large, but
where we will meet is not hard to find.
Pack a picnic
lunch, bring some lawn chairs if you want,
and your coolers.
Just make sure you do not bring in any GLASS
containers.
They will not be allowed on the grounds.
Directions - Take Southern State Parkway to
the Cross Island
Parkway North. The first exit is Belmont
(gates opens at
10:45am), or take Northern State Parkway to
Cross Island South.
Parking is two dollars, but is often free.
Enter the track at
the main (paddock) entrance. Entry fee is
$2 or $3 depending
on whether or not the charge for parking.
Small children are
usually allowed in for free. We will be
meeting on the lawn
picnic area, which is just up the path on
the right about 100
feet or so. We will be very easy to find,
but if somehow you
get lost just ask where the paddock is, and
we will be just
behind it on the lawn (right across from the
big Carvel stand).
Or call Steve O. on cell phone at
631-356-2419.
The first race is at 1:00pm. We will meet
starting around
12:15pm and will be re-grouping at the
picnic area after each
race, so come whenever you can. Bring your
friends and family,
and come join us for a fun day. Oh yeah,
you might want to
bring a few dollars if you care to wager.
Otherwise, just
enjoy the band, playground, and some great
company.
Contact Steve O (631-356-2419) or Diane De
Lissio
