“Aspire
10K”
The Massapequa Road Runners team had a good showing
at the Aspire 10K race held on Sunday, April 3, 2011. The race was
inspiring due to the physically challenged athletes and their
performance. We can all learn from them about what it takes to get to
the start line of any race.

“The
Challenge Continued”
The challenge continued Saturday March 19th,
in Kings Park. The hilly 15K race was a bigger challenge this year due
to the difficult training weather since December. Nevertheless, our
Massapequa Team had a great turnout and brought home many individual age
group awards.

2011 RACE TEAM RULES
If you are receiving emails from Warren Drezen you are
already on our Team or have expressed interest in being on
the Team. We had another successful season in 2010 and look
forward to the competition. The requirements are first that
you be a MRR member in good standing. There are at least 6
races over the year that do not require you to be an LITF
member and you can run as a member of our Teams. The
rewards are smaller for these races but the competition is
the same. Some races are relays. We may participate in
Biathlons, Triathlons if there is enough interest from the
members. The MAIN EVENT is the LITF (Long Island Track and
Field) series of races which start March 12th in Kings Park.
There are at least 10 races throughout the year concluding
in December. You must be an LITF member in order to score
points for the team which make us eligible for awards and
cash. The cost for membership is $29.95/year and the website
is
www.long-island.usatf.org. When you join you
need to specify Massapequa as your Team. Races range in
distance from 1 mile to a Marathon so anyone can
participate.
AS AN LITF MEMBER IF YOU COMPLETE 8 RACES YOU ARE
ELIGIBLE FOR A CHANCE AT A $250 CASH RAFFLE. THERE ARE
10 CASH AWARDS GIVEN OUT AS RAFFLES EACH YEAR FOR A
TOTAL OF $2500. THIS COVERED THE COST OF MEMBERSHIP IN
THE CLUB, LITF AND ALL RACES FOR 2010.
Below you will find the rules and the
tentative schedule.
FOR NEW MEMBERS After you join LITF we will give you a
Team singlet. When you complete 4 Team races you get
shorts. When you complete 8 Team races you get a Team
jacket. We would appreciate having you as a volunteer as
well. Volunteer opportunities are at the discretion of
the Volunteer Coordinator and myself.
FOR RETURNING MEMBERS When you complete 8 races in 2011
and 1 TEAM QUALIFYING volunteer event you get to choose
a piece of clothing. This could include long or short
sleeve shirts, wind pants, tights, etc. The other
alternative is to have your LITF membership for the
year refunded. Qualifying Team volunteer events include
providing finish line services for the Levittown race
in June, Marching in the Massapequa park parade July 4th
representing the Club, providing finish line services
for any future races not on the calendar that become
available to us., or obtaining a Sponsor that supports
our Club. There may be other volunteer opportunities
that develop over the year that may be considered for
Team members. Volunteering to support the Team is
unrelated to volunteering for the Club. All club
members volunteer to support the Club in many ways
throughout the year.
TEAM ATTIRE MUST BE WORN AT TEAM RACES AND IS ENCOURAGED
AT OTHER RACES. We have found that the Team clothing
acts as advertising for the club and has brought us new
members. All Team money earned is the property of the
Team. Some years we cover the cost of the Team some
years the club supports us. The volunteer Team events
provide funding for the Team.
The current schedule of races for 2011 is below. Contact
person is Warren Drezen at
wira001@aol.com Home # 516 798
1729 cell 516 382 3035 Please let me know only if you
are coming to an event. Email is preferred. If you
would like to be removed from the email list please
write back. I use the same list to share many of our
Group runs. You do not have to be on the Team to remain
on the email list.
