NEW HYDE PARK RACE
Our Race Team did very well at the New Hyde Park
5 mile race in early June.
The Womens Masters Team took 2nd place. Anne
Rosenfeld led the way followed by Sarah
Pettinato, Irene Robinson, Irene Drezen, and
Ellen Shapiro.
The Men's Masters Team took 2nd,3rd, and 5th
places. Greg Karl led the way followed by Jay
Byrne, and Bruce MacCorkindale. The next Team
included John Stauber, Neil Ferrara, and Warren
Drezen. The final Team was led by Rich Astarita,
then Bruce Zimmermann, and Curt Robinson.
Individual Awards included
Bruce MacCorkindale 1st Clydesdale
John Stauber 1st Clydesdale
Ellen Shapiro 2nd Race Walker Masters
Greg Karl 2nd Age group
Sarah Pettinato 1st Age Group
Irene Robinson 2nd Age Group
It was inspiring to see Bruce Zimmermann and
Curt Robinson continuing their comebacks. We
missed you and your participation.
Congratulations to all who participated.
Although this was our Club Race we still fielded
a Men's Team since it is in the LITF series for
Men. A tired group including Greg Karl, Bruce
MacCorkindale, Barry Jerson, Neil Ferrara, Rich
Astarita, Warren Drezen and John Stauber
completed the race after many of us volunteered
throughout the day. John Stauber placed 2nd in
the Clydesdale division as well.
Congratulations for putting on a great race to
Alex as the Race Director, Diane the President,
Dennis for the timing, and all of the volunteers
for showing how its done well.
We set a record for participation as far as the
number of Teams entered in a race by our Club.
We fielded a total of 10 Teams including 6 Men's
Teams and 4 Women's Teams in the Open and
Masters Divisions.
The results and Team members are as follows:
Open Men 3rd place Warren Drezen Rich Astarita,
and Peter Martin
4th place Warren Vanderwater,
Bruce Zimmermann, and John De Lissio
5th place Howard Cragg, Howard
Kestenbaum, and Curt Robinson
Peter Martin finished the race in spite of an
injury during the race since he knew that their
was Glory on the line (Beer).
Masters Men 2nd place Rich Bury, Jay Byrne, and
Alex Flyntz
4th place Hapi Auer, Jim
Galante, and John Stauber
5th place Barry Jerson, Neil
Ferrara, and Bruce MacCorkindale
The second place Team missed First place by a
total of 13 seconds. If these guys can run so
fast cant they pick up a second/mile each? More
importantly they brought home the Glory (Beer).
Individually, Alex Flyntz took 1st place in his
age group and Howard Ketzenbaum took 3rd place
in his.
Open Women 4th place Irene Robinson, Michelle
Ackerman, and Irene Drezen
5th place Ellen Shapiro,
Jennifer Trzcinski, and Susan Kueffner
Masters Women 4th place Melissa Kennedy, Karen
Conkling, and Christine Stankard
5th place Paula Macculloch, Diane De Lissio, and
Marcia Goldberg
Melissa is also on the comeback trail taking 1st
in her age group. Irene Robinson snared 2nd
place in her age group. Karen continues to
inspire us as always.
Congratulations to all who participated.
