I would like to thank all of
our Team members for their efforts this past season. We
had our best showing as a Team. Not only did each
person’s participation count each and every step
counted. By having Teams at most races we were able to
place higher than other faster clubs who didn’t field a
team in that race. The difference in cumulative times
for individual races was as small as 5 seconds. Every
time one of us pushed a little we picked up seconds that
created our record for the year. I appreciate all of the
cooperation concerning letting me know when you would be
or not be at races. I also appreciate the times you
dragged yourself to places and races when you didn't
want to.
Our presence as a Club extends throughout the Island
and in to the City. We are gaining Club Members as we
are seen at races wearing our uniforms, getting trophies
and being the friendly club. We had participation by 20+
men and 20+women.
The Clubs Male runner of the year Paul Letosky is interested
in joining the team. Our Female runner of the year Irene
Drezen was a new member of the women’s team this past
year. John De Lissio was our Male MVP for the team as a
rookie. Karen Conkling was the Female MVP for the team
also as a rookie.
Our member of the year Bruce Zimmerman who has done so
much for the club has been a very active member of the
Men's Race team.
The LITF standings were;
Men's open sprint 1ST PLACE, Masters Sprint 5th,
Men’s open long 4th, Men’s masters long 2nd,Women's
open sprint 3rd Place, Masters sprint 5th, Womens open
long 3rd, Womens masters long 3rd.

Jackets
At the February 13 General
Meeting, MRR Club President Diane Delissio and Racing Team Captain
Warren Drezen honor racing members with their new racing team jackets.
Accepting their jackets are Karen Conlking, Bruce MacCorkindale and
Irene Drezen. Also awarded a jacket but not present is Ellen Shapiro.
Our Teams placed well in other races this year;
Latino Relay
Womens open 1ST PLACE, Mixed open 2nd
New Hyde Park 5 mile
Male Masters 2nd and 5th place, Female Masters 3rd
and 4th place.
Bellmore 4 mile
Women's open 1ST PLACE, Women's Masters 3rd,Men's
Open 6th ,Men's masters 5th
Ocean to Sound Relay
Our only Official Team was the MRR Fun Seekers who
place 5th in the Mixed Masters The Brady Bandits placed
5th Male Masters and fielded some of our team members,
The Brady Brigade also competed in the same division.
Robs Run 5k
Masters Mixed 3rd place, Senior Masters Mixed 2nd
place
The following returning TEAM members have earned a piece
of clothing of your choice based upon participation;
Melissa Kennedy, Paula MacCulloch, Sarah Pettinato,
Diane De Lissio, Irene Robinson, Joe Ninesling, Warren
Drezen, Rich Astarita, Rich Bury, Jay Byrne, Tom
Pettinato, and Peter Martin.
The following new members have earned based upon their
participation; Karen Conkling, Irene Drezen, John De
Lissio, and Ellen Shapiro should receive Shorts and
a singlet if not already received and a Race Team
Jacket.
Michelle Nusblatt, Neil Ferrara, Hapi Auer, and Tony
Segarra should receive Shorts and a singlet if not
already received for completing at least 4 races.
Please see Tom Pettinato at a meeting to receive your
clothing.
This coming year I will be coordinating the Men’s
and Womens Teams. I am looking for two assistants since
I can’t be at every race. The Race calendar is not
finalized yet. As soon as it is available I will send it
out and would need you to indicate which events you plan
to run in and those that you plan to volunteer at. You
need to renew your LITF membership if you haven’t
already. If you feel that you are unable to continue on
the team let me know. We know that the Latino Relay in
Sunken Meadow is Saturday Feb 17th. It is a 6 person
team with 2 mile legs. Please let me know if you plan to
participate. You can run more than 1 loop on different
teams. We have placed very well at this race in the
past. The Club pays for the entry and we will include
any other club member on that day looking to do a leg.
The GLIRC relay is scheduled for Sunday Feb 25th at the
picnic area at the end of the Bethpage park bike path.
It is a 3 person Team with 2 mile legs and is FREE.
Please let me know if you want to participate. Our
success has come from participation. Walking any race is
encouraged and appreciated.
We are looking to finalize the Team Rosters for
2007. Please contact me if you would like to be added to
the Team as openings occur. We have added many new
members each year. I would also like to thank the
members from 2006 who will not continue with us. We all
appreciate your efforts and hope you would consider
rejoining in the future.
